Editorial Policy
GigLawGuide is an independent publication for freelancers, independent contractors, and gig workers. This page explains how we choose topics, how we research and write, how we update content, and how we handle corrections and guest posts. It exists so readers — and reviewers — can see exactly how this site works.
Who Writes This Site
GigLawGuide is founded and mainly written by Muhammad Muzammil. See our About Us and Our Team pages for his background, experience, and contact details.
Muzammil is not a lawyer, and GigLawGuide is not a law firm. Nothing on this site is legal advice, and reading it does not create an attorney-client relationship.
How We Choose Topics
We start with a real freelancer problem: a contract clause that is unclear, a payment that is late, a classification question, a tax deadline, or a platform rule that affects income. We do not publish a post only because a keyword is popular. If a topic does not help a freelancer make a decision, protect income, or understand a right, it does not belong here — or it is rewritten until it does.
How We Research
Where possible, we check primary sources first:
- State labor departments and freelancer protection laws, including the Freelance Isn’t Free Acts in New York, California, and Illinois, with their thresholds, dates, and limits.
- IRS guidance for self-employed workers, and official tax information where a post touches taxes.
- Official platform help pages and terms, for posts about platform rights, fees, and payments.
- Agency and court guidance where relevant, linked in the post’s Sources section.
Secondary summaries are used only to find primary sources, not as a substitute for them. If a law or rule is uncertain, or varies by state, we say so in the post instead of presenting one answer as universal.
How We Write
Every guide aims to be:
- Practical: a checklist, a contract clause, an email script, or a decision a reader can make today.
- Plain English: legal ideas explained without unnecessary jargon, with examples from freelance work.
- Distinct: each post answers a different question. Similar topics are differentiated, not repeated, and linked to each other.
- Honest about limits: what a guide covers, what it does not cover, and when to talk to a licensed attorney or tax professional.
We reuse and improve our own deep articles rather than deleting them. When a post is updated, its core research is kept, its introduction is made clearer, its sources are checked, and its “last reviewed” date is updated. We do not publish mass, templated posts to increase post count.
Updates and Corrections
Laws, taxes, and platform rules change. When they do, the relevant guide is reviewed and updated, and its last-reviewed date changes. If you find an error, an outdated law, or a broken link, please tell us through our Contact page or at info@giglawguide.com. We will check it, fix it, and note the correction on the article where the change is material.
Guest Posts
Guest articles are reviewed manually before publication. See our Write for Us page for topics and rules. A guest writer is credited by name and bio on their own article. Guest writers are not presented as staff, employees, or lawyers for GigLawGuide unless they actually are. We reject copied, spun, promotional, or link-focused submissions.
Images, Links, and Advertising
Images on this site are our own, licensed, or properly attributed. We do not use other people’s photos as our team photos, and we do not present AI-generated portraits as real people.
External links are included only where they help the reader — usually to a primary source or a tool mentioned in the guide. A link is not an endorsement of every page on that site. We do not sell links, and we do not publish posts whose main purpose is to place a link.
GigLawGuide currently runs no ads while it seeks AdSense approval. Any future advertising will be clearly separated from editorial content.
